Vienna in a rush of enjoyment: autumn food festivals attract gourmet lovers!
Vienna is a true culinary metropolis in autumn! The city is lively this time of year with an exciting mission: to celebrate gastronomy in all its facets. A special highlight is the Vienna Future Food Week, which runs until October 11th. Everything here revolves around sustainable kitchen concepts, which can be experienced through workshops and pop-up dinners. This event will involve approximately 75 restaurants preparing for the upcoming Fall Culinary Week, which will take place from October 20th to 26th, 2025. This week promises special gourmet menus at fixed prices - a wonderful opportunity to delve into the culinary depths of Viennese cuisine.
But that's not all! The Viennese gastronomy scene has positioned itself as an international gourmet destination under the glamorous starry sky of the Michelin Guide, which counted 82 star restaurants after its return to Austria. The best-known addresses include the Steirereck and the Restaurant Amador with an impressive three stars. Furthermore, Vienna already has 182 award-winning restaurants in the Gault&Millau 2025. Exchange Express reports that the trend in gastronomy is increasingly focusing on sustainability and regional products, which is also reflected in the seasonal menus - pumpkin, game and mushrooms are now very popular.
Kulinariques Festival in Vienna
Vienna has not only distinguished itself as a gourmet destination, but also celebrates its diversity with a variety of culinary festivals. For example, the popular “mit alles” festival will take place on March 28th and 29th, 2025 in the WUK project room. There are natural wines, creative dishes and workshops here. The Super Beer Festival from April 11th to 12th, 2025 in the Ottakringer Brewery is particularly exciting, where beer culture can be experienced up close. More than 100 farm direct marketers and catering businesses enrich the culinary offering 1000thingsmagazine, while the Genuss Festival in Vienna's City Park from May 9th to 11th, 2025 will introduce visitors to regional specialties.
Another highlight is the enjoyment festival, where the focus is on interaction with producers. As Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig and Tourism State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner emphasized at the opening of the festival, the event is all about enjoyment, regionality and sustainable agriculture. Only AMA GENUSS REGION-certified products are on display, a guarantee of quality and regionality. If you want to know more about this festival, you can check out the official website BMLUK.
New gastronomy trends and exciting openings
The Viennese gastronomy scene is booming, and new restaurants have established themselves in the last few weeks. The “Wonder” on Praterstrasse brings robot-assisted cuisine to the table. Yu’s Cottage focuses on Asian tapas and creative cocktails, while the newly opened Sopherl on Naschmarkt offers modern tavern cuisine. The autumn dishes served at GO!Wien am Fleischmarkt are also an absolute must! The creations in the numerous restaurants reflect the current trends in gastronomy: small, extensive menus give way to focused taste experiences that are underlined by the use of regional products.
Whether at one of the numerous festivals or in one of the new restaurants – autumn enjoyment in Vienna has many facets to offer. Seize the opportunity and let yourself be enchanted by Viennese cuisine with regional and international influences!
