SK Rapid needs a home win against Györ – the dream is alive!
SK Rapid Vienna faces an important challenge today, August 29, 2025. In the second leg of the UEFA Conference League qualification, the team will face Hungarian club ETO Györ. After the defeat in the first leg, which ended 1-2, Rapid now needs a win at the Allianz Arena in Hütteldorf in order not to be eliminated from international competition. The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ORF1.
Coach Peter Stöger is optimistic, despite the deficit from the first leg. “The first half was passive, but in the second we showed that we are better,” he explained and is hoping for the return of Nikolaus Wurmbrand. The 19-year-old, who has returned from a muscle injury, scored two goals in the last game against Wolfsberger AC and was also a goalscorer for his team in the first leg. Sports director Markus Katzer praised him for his down-to-earth manner and emphasized his importance for the team. 5min.at
The initial situation
SK Rapid Wien has been able to hold its own in the domestic Bundesliga so far and is undefeated after four rounds of games. They share first place with RB Salzburg. This positive balance gives the team support when looking at the European stage. Betting base predicts a victory for SK Rapid by at least two goals, which strengthens the confidence among the fans. The team reached the quarter-finals of the Conference League last season and thus gained more European experience than their opponents. Nevertheless, the record against Györ is clouded by the first leg, which Rapid lost despite all their efforts. A departure would not only have sporting consequences, but also financial consequences that could affect the mood in the club.
The squad and formation
All players except those with long-term injuries are fit, and coach Stöger could celebrate the debut of new signing Martin Ndzie. Marco Tilio, however, is not yet eligible for UEFA. The expected line-up for the second leg is as follows:
| position | player |
|---|---|
| goal | Hedl |
| Defence | Bolla, Cvetkovic, Raux-Yao, Horn |
| midfield | Wurmbrand, Amane, Seidl, Dahl |
| attack | Antiste, Mbuyi |
Györ's expected line-up includes, among others, Petras in goal as well as several promising players who should strengthen the offensive power. Rapid must do everything they can to save their dream of reaching the group stage of the Conference League and at the same time present their own fans with a strong home performance.
