In the early morning hours of July 4, 2025, a serious accident occurred with a Flixbus on Autobahn 19 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The bus, which was traveling from Copenhagen to Vienna, left the road at the Röbel junction at around 2:40 a.m. and overturned. There were 55 people on board, including 53 passengers and two bus drivers, who fortunately were uninjured. However, the situation of the passengers is dramatic: 20 people suffered injuries, one of which was classified as life-threatening, after this passenger was trapped for over two hours before he could be freed. As the Evening newspaper reported, no precise information is yet available on the severity of the other injuries.

The motorway in the direction of Berlin was completely closed after the accident while rescue workers and the fire brigade were on duty. A rescue helicopter was also called. Officials from the Dummerstorf, Linstow and Plau am See motorway districts were called to the scene of the accident, and the public prosecutor's office has already called in a Dekra expert to clarify exactly what happened. Incidents at Flixbus: A worrying trend?

This accident is attracting attention, especially since it is not the first serious incident in Flixbus history. During the inspections, 78.6% of the buses found no defects, which shows some progress in the area of ​​safety. Nevertheless, the tragic incident is once again challenging the discussion about safety in bus transport.

The serious accident not only alarmed the affected travelers, but also the entire industry. How are Flixbus' security protocols checked? Passengers, like all of us, have a responsibility to wear seat belts and follow safety instructions. Children in particular should be secured in suitable seats.
