Experience history: October attracts with over 500 events!

October is approaching, and that means a very special event for all history buffs in the Netherlands: the Maand van de Gescheidis. This year's largest historic event is taking place for the 22nd time and there are a wealth of over 500 activities on offer across the Netherlands. The focus this year is on the theme “Natuurlijk”, which takes those interested on an exciting journey through the history of the region.

There will be plenty of opportunities to learn more about the past in the municipalities of Steenwijkerland, Westerveld and Noordoostpolder. Museums, bookstores and heritage institutions have come together to present history in a variety of ways. The aim of the event, which is held by Netherlands Open Air Museum is organized is to encourage people to discover and understand history. Because yesterday's knowledge helps us to better understand the present.

A variety of activities for old and young

The Maand van de Gescheidis offers exciting things for every age group. This includes, among other things, oneVaartocht in De Wieden, where the beauty of nature is explored on an open whisper boat. This tour not only offers insights into the creation of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, but also the chance to observe various species of birds. The boat tours take place every Wednesday and Sunday.

Here visitors can hear stories about the sunken village of Beulake and the watery landscape of De Wieden, as well as take part in genealogical consultations for genealogy research.
