Dance fever in Vienna: Public Moves and Pina Bausch inspire all generations!
Summer in Vienna offers a true variety of cultural experiences this year! Since July 12, 2025, the city has been coming to life with the events of the Impulstanz Festival, which is hosting numerous highlights and interesting workshops until August 10. Here, dance-loving visitors can try out various disciplines and enjoy the pulsating atmosphere. Younger people are particularly attracted to this, while the older generations may think nostalgically of the groundbreaking pieces by Pina Bausch, which are still vividly remembered by many.
The Wuppertaler Tanztheater, founded by the choreographer Pina Bausch and known for its innovative and emotional performances, will perform two legendary productions, “Café Müller” and “Nelken”, at the Burgtheater. These works are not only milestones of modern dance, but also expressions of Bausch's unique style, which brings stories to life through moving physicality. The renowned dance theater also offers workshops that enable those interested to learn the basics of dance theater, regardless of their previous knowledge.
Diverse open-air events with public moves
In addition to the impressive productions, there are the free Public Moves events, which are offered at seven different locations in Vienna, including in front of the Museumsquartier, in the Seestadt and at the Kaiserwasser. These open-air events not only promote the health, but also the social interaction of the participants, who can move in the fresh air and dance together in a relaxed way.
A special highlight of this year's events is the performance of Pina Bausch's "Café Müller", which premiered in 1978 and has gone down in dance history as a style-former. In this performance, the dancers move through furniture to the music of Henry Purcell, creating a unique atmosphere that reflects Bausch's memories of her father's café. This production should not only be seen as a unique experience, but also as part of a larger program that celebrates the beauty and diversity of dance.
A warm welcome to all dance enthusiasts
The Public Moves events are advertised in English and are aimed at all ages, bodies and genders as well as different experience levels. The carefree togetherness should enable people to immerse themselves in a new world of dance. How important this type of connection is is also made clear by the planned workshops at the Pina Bausch Center, which invite participants to discover the basics and facets of dance theater.
A fixed date to mark is May 24, 2025, when advanced dancers will be invited to a special workshop with Silvia in Wuppertal. The workshops set a nice accent on the cultural floor and offer an exciting opportunity to live out your creativity and enthusiasm for dance.
This summer, Vienna is offering a unique platform for dance lovers and curious people alike, which combines the joy of movement and expression. Be there as these unique events and performances bring the city to life!
