Stadium bridge closed until June 2026: chaos and diversions in Vienna!
The traffic situation in Vienna is currently being heavily influenced by the construction work on the stadium bridge. These have been in full swing since February 2025 and are now resulting in a far-reaching ban. The bridge in the direction of the 3rd district will be completely closed until October 30th, 2025, while no passage is possible in the other direction until November 3rd. The ÖAMTC reports this in a current update.
The diversions for vehicle drivers are clearly regulated. Anyone traveling in the direction of the 3rd district is asked to cross the Rotunda Bridge. For those who want to drive towards the 2nd district, the path leads via Erdbergstrasse, Kundmanngasse and later to the Rotunda Bridge. In addition, the Stadionallee from Rustenschacherallee is also closed, according to the information from OEMTC.
Transport measures and bus routes
The construction site also entails restrictions on public transport. Bus route 80A will operate in a split route until November 3rd. From November onwards, the bus route will have to be rerouted in sections. Bus route 77A also needs to be rerouted and road users are warned that lanes on the A4 will be narrowed during the day. Temporary closures are possible at night.
The construction site work is part of a larger project in which tracks are also being built to extend line 18. However, the city of Vienna has rejected alternative proposals from a local club, making the situation even more complicated. This puts drivers in the entire affected region in a difficult position, as there are also fears of traffic jams on various diversion routes, even during the autumn holidays, as the ÖAMTC has warned.
Don't forget pedestrians and cyclists
The infrastructural measures also include guiding cyclists and pedestrians along the lower footpath and cycle path, which will be temporarily rerouted. The Danube Canal cycle path will be temporarily relocated to the staircase path to ensure that pedestrians and cyclists are not left out.
In any case, access to Schlachthausgasse remains secured via Erdberger Lände, and the access from there to the eastern motorway (A4) also remains free. Once the work is completed, residents will be granted access to Stadionallee.
All in all, the traffic situation in and around the Stadionbrücke is currently tense and it is important to follow the current information in order to get to your destination in Vienna without stress.
