Viennese restaurants serve warmth: soup with a sense for those in need!
A heart for those in need: The “Soup with Meaning” campaign by MyDistrict was not only a culinary initiative, but also an important social contribution to combating poverty. Since November 1st and until December 31st, Viennese people can order a special “soup with meaning” in numerous pubs and restaurants and do good at the same time. For every soup sold, one euro goes to Tafel Österreich, which takes care of people affected by poverty.
In almost all districts of Vienna, with the exception of the 4th, 18th and 20th districts, inns and restaurants are taking part in this great campaign. Every soup ordered supports up to ten people in need. The managing director of Tafel Österreich, Alexandra Gruber, emphasizes the importance of this campaign, especially in times of inflation and rising poverty rates. 420,000 people in Austria are affected by severe food poverty - an alarming situation that cannot be ignored.
A strong sign of solidarity
Prominent ambassadors such as the actress Konstanze Breitebner and the musician Thomas Mraz are behind this valuable initiative. Breitebner describes it as regrettable that such support is necessary in a wealthy country like Austria. Mraz emphasizes how important the fundraising campaign is and the impact that buying soup has on the lives of those in need. At the opening event in the “Zum Weißen Rauchfangkehrer” restaurant, the ambassadors enjoyed the first “Soup with Sense” – a successful start to an important winter campaign.
Last year the initiative was able to serve an impressive 600,000 portions to people in need. This is a clear sign of the great commitment of the Viennese gastronomy and the population, who are ready to achieve a big impact through small gestures.
Community in focus
The “Soup with Meaning” campaign is not just a one-off event, but shows the high level of community responsibility in Vienna. There are also many non-profit organizations in Austria that rely on donations or offer voluntary work. Tafel Österreich is just one of many initiatives that support people in need. Organizations such as Caritas, the Red Cross or “Neighbor in Need” also provide valuable help and rely on the support of society. A complete list of these organizations and their activities is below oesterreich.gv.at to find.
Whether by purchasing “soup with meaning” or supporting other aid projects – every help counts. A small gesture can often make a big difference. As the campaign shows, the people of Vienna are ready to support each other in difficult times. This not only promotes health, but also solidarity in the city.
