New swimming paradise in Simmering: the most modern swimming pool is opening soon!

A new chapter for swimming culture in Vienna will open on October 28, 2025. The modern swimming pool in the Simmeringer Bad will then start full operation. But that's not all - schools and swimming clubs are already allowed to use the new 25-meter lanes and the state-of-the-art equipment. This hall is an important part of the broad pool construction program, which aims to significantly improve the bathing culture in the city. It offers swimming enthusiasts more space and boasts an environmentally friendly design, which are particularly sought-after attributes these days.

The heart of the new facility is a sports pool measuring 25 x 12.5 meters. In addition to this large pool, there are new changing rooms and sanitary facilities, which are connected to the existing building via two connecting bridges. Barrier-free access is also guaranteed so that everyone can use the hall without any problems. Additional lying areas ensure more comfort, while modern bathing water is renewed using innovative technology. The green facade and roof as well as the photovoltaic system with an output of 100 kWp, which stand for environmentally conscious use of energy, can also be proudly mentioned. The new opening hours, which apply every Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., as well as extended morning and evening hours in the existing swimming pool make the facility even more attractive to the public.

Part of a larger plan

The Simmeringer Bad is part of the comprehensive “Bathroom Strategy 2030”, which has been in implementation since 2021. Combined pools in Simmering and the Großfeldsiedlung will be expanded to create training swimming pools. The order for these projects came from the City Council of Vienna, MA 44 – Bäder, and the architects from illiz Architektur ZT GmbH implemented the plans with the most modern standards and a cantilever design. These new halls will not only be used for school and club sports, but will also have a high level of consideration for the environment.

Another exciting project in the area of swimming pools in Vienna is the new hall in the Höpflerbad, whose construction work has already begun and is scheduled to be completed by 2027. This hall is being realized with a climate-friendly concept that does not use natural gas. It will be a sporting highlight with a 25 x 16 meter swimming pool as well as a 1 meter diving board and a 3 meter diving platform. The city of Vienna also recently announced that the Höpflerbad, which opened in 1979, will shine in new splendor again with extensive construction work by 2027.

Sustainability in focus

Both projects rely heavily on environmentally friendly technologies. The new hall in the Höpflerbad plans to operate with two heat pumps and a large photovoltaic system. Here in Vienna we show that state-of-the-art architecture and sustainable construction do not have to be mutually exclusive. Our city's pool strategy 2030 is a sign that climate protection is also a priority in the water world.

Viennese swimming culture is well on its way to not only scoring points with attractive new halls, but also taking a pioneering role in sustainability. The implementation of these projects, which will become visible in the next few years, gives hope for a brilliant outlook for the future of swimming in Vienna. The new swimming pools not only represent sporting achievements, but also an attitude to life that brings people closer to what the city has to offer.
