Danger of insolvency for the Simmering cultural association: 330,000 euros in debt!

On November 3, 2025, the Alpine Creditors Association (AKV) officially opened bankruptcy proceedings over the assets of the Simmering Cultural Association at the Vienna Commercial Court. The association, which was founded in the 1980s, has since then organized cultural events in the Simmering district and has also been active in the picturesque Simmering Castle.

But the future of the club is in jeopardy. The causes of the insolvency are significant: In addition to the financial legacy that burdens the club, the lack of subsidies does not go unmentioned. The total debt currently amounts to around 330,000 euros, while the assets, i.e. the available funds, only amount to around 80,000 euros. A total of 57 creditors are affected by this situation, which illustrates the dimension of the challenge. MeinBezirk reports that the bankruptcy significantly endangers cultural operations in the region.

Financial perspectives

There is a ray of hope for the rest of 2025: The cultural association expects a positive cash flow as ongoing expenses remain low and income can be generated from the management of the castle, including rental and stand fees for Christmas markets. However, hope for a positive turnaround could quickly disappear as the rental agreement for Simmering Castle expires at the end of 2025. Without a new contract, a significant source of income could be lost and with it the possibility of continuing to run the club. AKV makes it clear how critical the situation looks without an investor: the company is threatened with closure and liquidation.

There are questions about the future. Is it still possible to restructure the company? The insolvency administrator, Mag. PLL.M. Katharina Winkler, will accompany the further procedure, but as the examination meeting on January 19, 2026 will show, important decisions need to be made. The registration deadline until January 5, 2026 will also show how serious the cultural association's liquidity is.

The history of the Simmering Cultural Association is characterized by commitment and challenges. But now it is in the hands of those responsible and potential investors to find a new way. The region's cultural heritage is at stake and the community hopes for a positive turnaround.
