Vienna gets a new vintage hotspot: Wutai Vintage opens!
Dora Janković has opened her new vintage shop “Wutai Vintage” at Zentagasse 43 in Vienna’s 5th district. This special place is not only a paradise for everyone looking for unique furniture, clothing, lamps and everyday objects from the 50s to 80s, but also a cozy meeting place for young and old. Janković aims to create “Wutai Vintage” as a welcoming space for everyone, far away from the typical hip elite.
Janković and her partner regularly roam flea markets in over 30 cities in nine countries, including Hungary, Belgium and Portugal, to find treasures. Very special pieces come to light that are part of everyday European culture, such as the popular plastic objects from the 70s and Czechoslovakian lamps. Prices start at just one euro, so everyone can find something without breaking the bank.
A place to browse and marvel
“Wutai Vintage” is intended to be a place for stories, encounters and memories. The name itself is inspired by a trip to a Buddhist temple in Wutai Shan, China, during Janković's art history studies. Here, vintage lovers can not only browse, but also discover inspiring stories about the collected pieces.
By the way, Vienna offers even more for flea market fans. The Naschmarkt is known for its bargains and regularly attracts vintage hunters. Another hotspot is Merkurplatz, where visitors can go looking for special pieces every Saturday. According to a survey, Vienna's flea markets are increasingly among the best places to go for lovers of antiques and retro furniture, especially for those who want to enjoy the atmosphere of bygone times while combining their shopping with a short stroll through the city's charming streets.
Flea markets in Europe
Vienna is not the only city known for its flea markets. There are numerous opportunities to discover vintage treasures throughout Europe:
