Last weekend was in House Schmelz celebrated a big anniversary: 50 years full of community and joy of life. Residents, employees and many guests gathered under the lively motto “Fair Fair” to properly honor this special event. The ceremony was led by director Arno Meier, who introduced the celebration with his warm manner.
District leader Dietmar Baurecht, who was also present, emphasized the immense importance of the house for the community in his speech. “It is a place of cohesion where generations meet,” emphasized Baurecht. This perspective is also clear in the close cooperation with the neighboring Kinderfreunde kindergarten, which underlines the importance of cross-generational encounters.
Joint activities and ceremonial honors
The exuberant atmosphere at the festival was reflected in the numerous hands-on stations. Whether shooting cans, reading palms or playing nostalgic games, there was something for every age group. Kindergarten director Sabine Polzer explained the advantages of the intergenerational pedagogy, which is very important in Haus Schmelz. Among other things, there are reading times, singing and gardening together, which promote exchange between young and old.
A special highlight of the anniversary was the honoring of the oldest residents, who celebrated their 100th year of life. Being honored with flowers and gifts was a moving moment for everyone present. Cutting a large anniversary cake together from the in-house patisserie provided additional enjoyment and joy.
Sustainability and modernization in focus
The Schmelz house has undergone a comprehensive modernization process between 2019 and 2021. Investments were made on 7,000 square meters not only in new nursing stations, but also in bright living areas. A solar system on the roof provides environmentally friendly energy and supports the house's sustainability efforts, as stated in the report Vienna district newspaper is mentioned.
The positive development and integrative cooperation show how important social institutions like Haus Schmelz are for our seniors. Also the project AGE:WISE aims to bridge the gap between younger and older generations by engaging older people in social interactions. This helps to increase respect for seniors and recognize their valuable skills.
Overall, the anniversary celebration at Schmelz was a nice occasion to honor the achievements and commitment of all employees. Simon Bluma, deputy managing director of “Häuser zum Leben”, summed it up at the end: “Your commitment has created a living home, and we are celebrating that together today.” The good atmosphere and the joy of everyone present are clear evidence that the Schmelz House has long since become an important part of the district.
