Opening of the new fitness oasis: Park Auf der Schmelz” in Vienna!

A new meeting point for young and old has opened in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus: The park “Auf der Schmelz” is now available to Viennese people. With an area of 2,320 square meters, it not only offers space for relaxation, but also for active activities.

The park, which was created on the former site of a roller sports facility, is equipped with a wide range of exercise options. These include, among other things, a calisthenics facility with horizontal bars, rung ladders and parallel bars. Fitness equipment such as leg presses and rowing machines are also available. Particular attention was paid to the seating options: new seating stands and benches invite you to linger. Of the 2,320 square meters, almost 1,000 square meters were de-shelled in order to optimize rainwater infiltration and make a positive contribution to the urban climate. Today reports that 30 freshly planted trees now characterize the park's image.

A place of meeting

The new park is intended to be a place of togetherness for all generations, with residents being actively involved during the planning phase. Their requests for more trees, shade and fitness opportunities were incorporated into the design. In addition to exercise areas, there are now also green pergolas that provide natural shade. A drinking fountain in the middle of the park provides further refreshment. OTS emphasizes that the climate-friendly design of the park not only increases the quality of life in the area, but also contributes to the City of Vienna's goals of creating attractive and green recreational areas.

But why do cities like Vienna rely so heavily on green open spaces? According to research on urban development, urban greenery is an important factor for improving the urban climate and increasing the quality of living and living. Studies have shown that such areas have positive effects on the physical and mental health of the population. Umwelt.uni-hannover.de describes that the attractiveness of properties near green spaces also increases.

Future outlook

The new park is part of a larger project by the City of Vienna, which is supported with 20 million euros annually until 2025 through the “Livable Climate Model City” funding program. Other projects, such as the Paula von Mirtow Park in Meidling and the Ludwig Zatzka Park near the Breitensee S-Bahn station, clearly show that the goal of comprehensive, sustainable urban development is taken seriously. Emphasis is placed increasingly on the importance of urban spaces and their multifunctionality in order to meet the challenges of urban development.

The “Auf der Schmelz” park could soon become the new centerpiece for sporting activities and recreation in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus – a real enrichment for the community!
