Ax attack at Vienna train station: 82-year-old threatens women!

On Tuesday evening there was a bizarre incident at the train station in Vienna-Hütteldorf that caused a stir. An 82-year-old attacked two women, 29 and 31 years old, with an axe. The reason for this frightening outbreak was a dispute over incorrectly parked cars. The police were alerted at 8:30 p.m., but the suspect had already fled when emergency services arrived. Only after intensive investigations could the man's home address in Hietzing be found crown reported.

In order to prevent an escalation, the WEGA special unit was requested to provide support. Officers arrived at the suspect's home and asked him to open the door. In a disturbing moment, the man raised the ax threateningly over his head. Fortunately, the police were able to overpower and arrest the 82-year-old. Due to his psychological state of emergency, he was immediately taken to a hospital to receive the necessary care.

Disputes in Vienna

This event is not alone. WEGA was also recently deployed in another district of Vienna, Meidling. On July 29, 2025, there was an argument between three men in which a 39-year-old was injured on his finger by a sharp object. The police arrived when only the injured person was on site, and he was given first aid by the Vienna professional rescue service and taken to hospital. The investigation revealed that an unknown relative of the 18-year-old Syrian national, who was found in the basement of the house, was responsible for the injury. However, he escaped and is still unknown.

The police have to deal with such violent clashes again and again. According to the Police crime statistics (PKS) the development of criminal events in Austria is recorded in detail. These statistics not only list the reported crimes, but also serve to strategically plan police measures. An important point is that these numbers take into account the reporting behavior of the population, the intensity of police controls and legal changes.

A constant look at these statistics enables the police to take both preventative and repressive action against crime. The latest report, updated on September 19, 2025, shows that security in cities, including Vienna, is a key concern and is being intensively monitored.
