On October 1, 2025, the Senate of the MedUni Vienna was reconstituted, chaired by Maria Sibilia, with a term of office until 2028.

New Senate of MedUni Vienna started under the chairmanship of Maria Sibilia!
On October 1, 2025, the Senate of the Medical University of Vienna began its work. The election of Maria Sibilia as chairwoman and the constitution of the new committee marks the start of an exciting term of office that will last until the end of September 2028 reports MedUni Vienna.
In the constituent meeting, not only was Sibilia re-elected, but several deputies were also appointed. The positions are now held by the following people:

Who is Maria Sibilia?
Maria Sibilia is a recognized cell and tumor biologist who was appointed professor of cellular and molecular tumor biology at the Institute for Cancer Research in 2007. Her research interests include mouse genetics, tumor biology and immune defense against tumors adds Medonline.
Sibilia has headed the Institute for Cancer Research at the University Clinic for Internal Medicine I at MedUni Vienna since 2010 and was appointed interim head of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Vienna in 2019. She has also made a name for herself internationally through her membership in the Austrian Academy of Sciences and receipt of an “Advanced Grant” from the European Research Council (ERC).
The new Senate in detail
The Senate is made up of a broad representation of the university community, including:

- 6 Vertreter:innen der Universitätsdozent:innen und wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter:innen im Forschungs- und Lehrbetrieb
- 1 Vertreterin des allgemeinen Universitätspersonals
- 6 Vertreter:innen der Studierenden
The members were selected by election or secondment in accordance with Section 25 UG 2002, which ensures a democratic and transparent composition of the Senate.
Look into the research
MedUni Vienna is known for its innovative research projects. Exciting projects such as research into therapeutic approaches for interstitial lung disease or the management of clinical data are being pushed forward together with MedUni Graz says the MedUni Graz research portal.
With this new and continuation, the members of the Senate are providing impetus for the coming years - both on a political and scientific level. The challenges are great, but with a solid team and established experts like Maria Sibilia at the helm, MedUni Vienna should be ideally positioned to break new ground in research and teaching.
