New leadership strategies: TU Vienna starts innovative training for crisis management

On December 7, 2025, a new module entitled “Leadership & Teams – Deciding and Communicating Under Pressure” will start at TU Vienna. This exciting training team aims to prepare managers for unexpected events in their professional and private lives. To do this, they are taught methods for making decisions under uncertainty and for clear communication in stressful situations. By focusing on realistic scenarios, participants can effectively develop their leadership and team skills. A highlight of the module is the use of an Airbus A320 flight simulator at AssekuRisk Safety Management GmbH, which impressively illustrates the factors of teamwork, hierarchy, stress and decision-making. With this approach, the TU Vienna is setting new standards in further training for modern managers in order to prepare for the challenges of tomorrow, as tuwien.at reports.

Participation in the program not only allows managers to reflect on their own leadership behavior, but also to gain a deeper understanding of reaction patterns under pressure. Tools for promoting resilience and constructive team leadership are also presented, which can help participants to have a good hand in crisis situations.

Team development in times of crisis

Effective leadership in crisis situations requires more than just specialist knowledge. As a Harvard Business Review article notes, successful leaders take a personal interest in the long-term development of their employees. They use their tact and social skills to ignite the motivation of their team members and encourage them to do their best work. It's not just about friendliness, but rather about using individual strengths to achieve common goals. This makes it clear that leadership goes far beyond popularity or power, as hbr.org shows.

Another exciting topic that is becoming increasingly important in the context of leadership development is diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). In this area, the book “Anti-Racist Leadership: How to Transform Corporate Culture in a Race-Conscious World” by James D. White and Krista White is a helpful guide for managers who want to seriously work on changing corporate culture. White, a former CEO of Jamba Juice, says he has achieved a remarkable turnaround for the company and shows how the power of diversity and an anti-racist stance can enable strong performance. Further information about this book can be found at hbr.org.

The next start of the new module at TU Vienna will be in October 2026. The initiative to further develop leadership skills, especially in turbulent times, could not be more relevant. In a world that is constantly changing and presenting challenging situations, it is becoming increasingly important that leaders are able to not only make decisions, but also communicate effectively and lead their teams through difficult times.
