New kindergarten in Hague: Modern concept for growing families!

There is exciting news for the smallest residents in Haag am Hausruck. The municipality plans to build a new kindergarten from 2026 that will better meet the needs of young families in the region. This bold step does not come out of nowhere, but rather as a response to the growing population and the planned construction of around 150 new apartments in the community. Mayor Konrad Binder sees this project as an important investment in the future.

The new kindergarten will be built not far from the outdoor swimming pool and will cost around four million euros. The idea of locating the kindergarten in the countryside and easily accessible from the market not only benefits the children, but also the parents, who have a short journey to the childcare facility. The architectural firm SLP has put the wishes of the educators at the forefront and will build three interconnected parts of the building. This structure is complemented by spacious “market squares” that provide direct access to the garden.

Needs and challenges

The need for a new kindergarten becomes particularly clear when you look at current trends in child care. In recent years, the expansion of daycare centers throughout Austria has increased in order to meet the needs of young families. In Germany, for example, there has been a legal right to a daycare place for children aged three and over since 1996. Currently the utilization rate for this age group is around 97%, which shows that almost every child of this age attends a childcare facility. The need for children under the age of three, on the other hand, is also increasing, but is still around 14 to 17 percent unmet, which points to existing challenges in the area of early childhood education.

In addition, the care landscape varies greatly from region to region. In many communities, the number and quality of facilities on offer are heavily dependent on financial conditions and political priorities. This particularly applies to daycare use beyond half-day offerings. The data also shows that there are large differences in daycare use depending on the socioeconomic characteristics of the families. The expansion in Haag am Hausruck could be an important step in the right direction to close these gaps.

Mayor Binder estimates the construction time for the new kindergarten to be around one and a half years. The community was able to purchase the property cheaply for the project and will use parts of the outdoor pool lawn for this. This shows a good knack for choosing a location: a kindergarten in this location could not only increase the quality of life in Hague, but also offer space for future expansion. In this way, the needs of young families can be met even better in the coming years.

In summary, Haag am Hausruck is facing a promising development that will sustainably improve the existing care offering for children. Through the new project, the community is showing that “things are really happening” here and that a good coexistence between nature, infrastructure and education should be promoted.
