Calle Libre: Meidling is transformed into an art paradise!

The twelfth Calle Libre Street Art Festival will make the streets of Meidling shine in bright colors in August under the motto “Youtopia”. Jakobs Kattner, the founder of the festival, has chosen an exciting location: Meidling, where this year the focus is on particularly creative wall designs. From August 16th to 23rd, the area surrounding the Meidlinger Markt and GleisGarten will be the setting for large-format works of art that are intended to reflect the personal vision of a better future.

The festival starts on August 16th with comedy shows in the Foodhall, where talents such as Aladdin Jameel, Bianca Lala and Tito Perez will ensure a good atmosphere. Art activities will then begin from August 18th to 22nd, with renowned artists from all over the world expected, such as Argentina's Elian Chali and Portugal's Mariana Santos. Local artist Mariella Lehner will also create a special work of art at Arndtstrasse 30.

Creative ideas and interactive experiences

The facades of Wiener Wohnen are the focus, but other exciting spots are also artfully considered during the festival. Special installations at Meidlinger Markt, including by German artist Fritten Freddie, will offer visitors an interactive experience. On August 21st there will be a big celebration at the market with a live painting workshop and DJ performances to celebrate artistic creativity and celebrate the festival.

The tradition of the Calle Libre Festival dates back to the tenth edition in 2023. Back then it took place in Ottakring and celebrated the theme “Transformation”. Artists transformed walls in the 16th district into impressive depictions that reflected important social and environmental issues. Over the years, the festival has not only contributed to the beautification of Vienna, but also sparked meaningful conversations about social change. Artists such as APHENOAH and Gera1 created works that addressed cultural diversity and the challenges of life, while installations had a lasting impact on and inspired the change in the cityscape.

The Calle Libre Festival is much more than just art on walls. It has become a catalyst for social discourse and shows how transformative power can be experienced through art. The upcoming event in Meidling promises to stay true to this tradition and further enrich the streets of Vienna.

If you don't want to miss the exciting developments and creative forces in Vienna and especially in the Meidling district, you should definitely note down dates in August. Artistic experiences and cultural highlights await visitors.
