New rescue service in Liesing: ready for 130,000 Viennese around the clock!
The Liesing district has received a major boost in emergency care: a new emergency service location for the Vienna Red Cross was opened on Kaffeeweg. This new facility, which opened its doors the week of July 20, 2025, focuses on the vitality and demands of a dynamic urban district with around 130,000 residents and 70,000 jobs. With up to 15 emergency vehicles that are on duty around the clock, an important basis for emergency rescue and patient transport is created here, as 5min.at reports.
The President of the Vienna Red Cross, Dr. Gabriele Domschitz, emphasized at the opening the importance of the optimal location for comprehensive supply. “The good transport connections are an essential factor so that our emergency vehicles can react quickly and efficiently in critical situations,” she explained. This challenge is particularly relevant when one considers the often tense traffic situation in Vienna, as Heute highlights. An appropriate infrastructure is therefore needed to meet the needs of the residents.
Comprehensive facilities and high standards
The new location not only includes the vehicles, but also offers office workstations for administrative tasks. These additional functions are important to ensure smooth operations and organization. District Councilor Wolfgang Ermischer emphasized the necessity of these investments for a constantly developing district that continually has to overcome new challenges.
Of course, the emergency services must be well trained. In emergencies, be it life-threatening illnesses, traffic accidents or injuries, ambulances are used, which are typically staffed by an emergency paramedic and a paramedic. Emergency ambulances are also used, which have an emergency doctor on board in addition to these specialists. In order to meet the high demands, all team members are thoroughly trained in the Vienna Red Cross training center and often have additional skills, such as administering medication or venipuncture, reports the Red Cross.
An answer to growing challenges
In his speech, City Councilor for Social Affairs Peter Hacker emphasized the relevance of such facilities in a growing city and emphasized the role of the Red Cross as an indispensable partner in rescue and patient transport as well as in the health and social system. These new developments are a clear sign that the City of Vienna is ready to meet the challenges of the future and ensure the safety of its citizens.
The new rescue service location in Liesing is not only a significant enrichment for the region, but also a further building block in professional care in emergencies. The operations are carried out at the highest level using modern equipment and committed specialists. The city has shown a good hand so that quick help can be guaranteed in future emergencies.
