Fire drama in Alt Erlaa: Popular Viennese woman dies in fire!

A tragic fire occurred in the Alt Erlaa residential complex in Vienna late in the evening of St. Stephen's Day, in which a popular resident, Lena S. (76), died. The fire brigade had to bring in around 80 people to fight the fire that broke out on the 9th floor of the C block. Numerous emergency calls and the heavy smoke quickly alerted the emergency services, and the situation quickly developed into an emergency.

Lena S., known for her helpfulness and zest for life, was in her apartment at the time of the fire. The exact circumstances that led to the fire are still unclear. However, an open flame, such as a Christmas candle, is considered a possible cause. Tragically, Lena was later found dead on her balcony.

The effects of fire

The fire spread across several apartments in the residential complex and was associated with intense smoke. A total of 53 residents were treated at the scene, while a 41-year-old woman was taken to hospital with suspected smoke poisoning. The fire department was quickly on the scene, but the devastating consequences of this incident cannot be denied.

Lena S., a long-time resident, leaves behind a community that mourns her loss. Even though she was physically limited, the Alt Erlaa veteran always had a bright smile on her face and always shared her joy of life via social media. On the day of the fire, she shared festive photos on Facebook, including a final touching post wishing her a “Merry Christmas.”

The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing, and the people of Vienna are hoping for an explanation. The sad events also raise questions about how security in residential complexes can be better addressed in the future to prevent such tragedies.

As already mentioned by oe24 and ORF reported, the tragedy remains unforgotten among Lena's neighbors, who stand together in these difficult hours.
