As is well known, a lot is happening in Vienna-Liesing, the 23rd district of Vienna. The population of over 123,000 people already exceeds that of Klagenfurt, which has around 105,000 inhabitants. This not only reflects the growing life here, but also brings with it numerous new development projects that will significantly change the cityscape in the coming years. According to that courier The plans for the new urban district “Biotop Wildquell” on old Wiltschek grounds in Atzgersdorf are a highlight of these developments.

Around 900 residential units are planned in the immediate vicinity of the new S-Bahn station “Benyastraße”. A three-hectare park is to be created as the heart of this urban district, which will beautify and enrich the living space of the residents. Construction projects such as the new U6 station “Erlaaer Straße” are already in full swing in the neighborhood.

A look at the new housing projects

By 2027, 1,900 new apartments are planned to be built along Meischlgasse in the “In der Wiesen Süd-Ost” district, spread over an area of 9.6 hectares. The building sites include a colorful mix: 488 privately financed condominiums, 203 new municipal apartments, 161 privately financed rental apartments and 565 subsidized rental apartments. This mix not only ensures diversity, but also more housing options for different income levels.

In addition, 511 SMART-subsidized apartments are planned. The need for an adapted infrastructure was also highlighted by district leader Gerald Bischof, who sees future development as crucial to the quality of life in the district.

Health and leisure in focus

The construction by the Porr company will be completed by the end of 2028 and includes a twelve-story building with a total area of 21,000 m². A comprehensive range of health services is expected here, which will significantly improve care in the district.

Together with expertise from the Vienna City Hall, future-oriented housing models and urban planning were discussed, as they were during a Delegation trip were discussed between the City of Vienna and Bavarian partners.

The numbers behind the development

In order to keep an overview of the changes, statistics on construction completions in Vienna are also created. The Statistics Austria reports that annual construction completions are continuously increasing. The data, which comes from the building and housing register, shows not only the number of completed apartments, but also challenges in reporting activities, which are constantly being improved.

All in all, it shows that the 23rd district in Vienna has great potential. With future-oriented development projects, a growing population and a clear vision for the infrastructure, Liesing is becoming the vibrant center of urban development.
