Vienna in fear: Scooter robber attacks women and seniors!

The security situation in Vienna is currently causing worried faces as the police are increasingly searching for a man who developed a penchant for necklaces in several attacks on women and a man. The unknown person is said to have been active in districts such as Leopoldstadt, Wieden and Favoriten between June and August 2025. In at least two of these robberies, the perpetrator used a scooter or e-scooter as an escape vehicle. This was reported by the MyDistrict.

The first attack occurred on June 23, when an 82-year-old woman was attacked. She was attacked on the scooter and fell while trying to defend her necklace, resulting in injuries. Another incident followed on June 27, when a 53-year-old woman was also the victim of an attack and sustained injuries. A similar incident occurred on July 16, in which a 56-year-old woman was grabbed by the neck and had her necklace snatched away, luckily resulting in only minor injuries. The last attack in this series took place on August 14th, when a 76-year-old man on an e-scooter was attacked, but suffered no injuries.

Details of a specific robbery.

The incident on June 18, 2025 in Waldmüllerpark in Favoriten, where a 32-year-old woman and her five-year-old son fell victim, is particularly frightening. The perpetrator, who was riding an e-scooter, approached the family and circled them several times before hitting the woman on the chest and snatching a gold chain from her. He then fled towards the Margaret Belt. The police are also conducting further investigations here, which have unfortunately been unsuccessful so far Vienna.at reported.

Challenges for fighting crime in Vienna.

The increasing number of robberies fit into a worrying overall picture of crime in Austria. According to statistical surveys, around 528,000 crimes were reported in Austria in 2023, which is the highest level since 2016. Of these, Vienna alone accounted for over a third. The Statista also records that around 85,400 offenses against public order were recorded, a record number.

Although the police density in Vienna is relatively high, the feeling of insecurity among citizens remains. Many believe that immigrants contribute to the crime problem, which further complicates the situation. There is also a desire among the population to step up the fight against crime, especially when it comes to attacks on people.

The police are asking the public for help in identifying the suspect. He could be between 25 and 35 years old, has short black hair, a medium build and is around 175 to 180 cm tall. Any relevant information can be submitted confidentially to the Vienna State Criminal Police Office on 01/313 104 32 20. Every tip could be crucial to increasing security in the city and preventing further robberies.
