Rainbow flag raised: Augarten celebrates diversity with a big festival!
Around 400 children and young people from the Augarten educational district celebrated a colorful pride festival at the Karmelitermarkt today. The event is dedicated to diversity and tolerance and is part of Vienna Pride Month. The MyDistrict reports on a colorful parade that led to the market in a star march. The Vienna Business School (VBS) Augarten and district leader Alexander Nikolai (SPÖ) raise the rainbow flag at the beginning to send a clear signal for acceptance and diversity.
Principal Alois Pack highlighted the importance of Pride Day for the school community. “Respectful cooperation is essential for our shared life and learning,” says Pack. The event was also supported by Helmut Schramm, chairman of the Vienna Merchants' Fund, who emphasized that the school prepares students for a life of diversity and tolerance.
Experience and celebrate diversity
The festival offered a rich program that included both artistic and interactive elements. The children and young people were able to take part in discussion events, present their own works of art and play on a wheel of fortune. In addition, playing music and dancing together created an exuberant atmosphere that lasted into the afternoon.
The rainbow flags were hoisted not only at the Karmelitermarkt, but also in all educational institutions in the educational area, from schools to kindergartens. “Diversity is our motto,” said one participant, who praised the positive atmosphere of the festival.
Colorful diversity and support from business
Another reference to the importance of diversity and inclusion comes from the international brand Milka, which launched the “Purple is colorful” campaign as part of Vienna Pride in 2024. This supports the LGBTIQ community and promotes values such as acceptance and cohesion. How OTS reports, prominent brand ambassadors, including athletes such as Anna Gasser and Viki Schnaderbeck, are part of the campaign, which aims to create a colorful and inclusive world.
Nina Mahnik, Head of Marketing at Mondelez Austria, emphasizes that it is important to them to promote tender cooperation. As an official partner of Vienna Pride, Milka actively campaigns against discrimination and exclusion and motivates employees to support the rights of the LGBTIQ community.
Such initiatives make it clear that in Vienna not only schools but also the economy play a role in promoting diversity and tolerance. The city shows that there is a lot of commitment here to live and experience harmonious coexistence.
Overall, today's Pride festival in the streets of Vienna makes it clear that diversity is not just an empty phrase, but a lived reality that is supported by many sides.
