Two tricksters arrested in Tyrol: 8 tobacconists in their sights!

Yesterday the Tyrolean police arrested two suspected tricksters, aged 27 and 44. This happened as part of a traffic stop in Kitzbühel after a search had already been launched for the two men and their French-registered vehicle. Both are accused of having committed thefts in a total of eight tobacco shops in Tyrol, Salzburg, Carinthia and Styria between July 26th and August 21st, resulting in total damage in the low five-digit euro range, reports courier.

The perpetrators' approach was perfidious: While one of the two distracted the tobacconist's employees, the other grabbed the daily loose items from safes, drawers or boxes. According to police, the thefts only occurred at night. One wonders how many more such incidents remain covered up.

Tracing the perpetrators

The arrest of the two men follows an intensive manhunt. Above all, the Tyrolean police's rapid and targeted investigation helped to catch the suspects. The crimes the two committed are part of a larger trend that has been observed in recent years: increasingly sophisticated methods of theft in shops and tobacconists. According to an analysis by the Federal Criminal Police Office The police crime statistics (PKS) show that the development of crime in Austria is under constant observation and targeted measures are necessary to reduce such crimes.

The PKS supports both preventive and repressive crime control and records all reported cases. The latest figures show that police checks in Tyrol were carried out with increased intensity, which is now also reflected in this successful arrest. It remains to be hoped that these two men will not only be held accountable for their actions, but that a signal will also be sent against this type of crime.

More and more people are concerned about their safety in stores. The actions of the two suspects have also made waves in Salzburg and show how important it is to be vigilant. At a time when many citizens' sense of security is at stake, the work of the police remains indispensable. We hope for a quick clarification and the reimbursement of the stolen amounts to the tobacconists affected.
