Traffic chaos in Vienna: major concerts and electro days cause traffic jams!
In the federal capital Vienna next weekend the motto will again be “Be careful, traffic volume!” The city is preparing for three major concerts in the Stadthalle as well as the 5th Vienna Electro Days on Rathausplatz. It is well known that such events not only bring joy, but also traffic chaos.
Let's start with the musical part: With the "Arena Tour 2025" the artist Montez will be performing in the Stadthalle today, September 25th. The concert starts at 7:10 p.m. and is expected to end around 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. On Friday, September 26th, the “One Vision of Queen” tribute concert with singer Marc Martel will provide further excitement, starting at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday it continues with the German singer Ayliva, who will perform from 7:45 p.m. before the event ends at around 10:15 p.m. According to MeinBezirk, high visitor numbers are expected for each of these concerts, which will further aggravate the traffic situation.
Traffic forecast and congestion factors
According to ARBÖ, there could be significant traffic delays on the streets around the town hall and town hall square, especially in the evening hours. Traffic jams are to be expected especially on the new building belt (Urban-Loritz-Platz), Hütteldorfer Straße, Märzstraße and Felberstraße. The entrances to garages could also be affected.
Another event that influences traffic is the 5th Vienna Electric Days. These will take place from September 25th to 28th daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with music programs until 9:00 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday. The program includes over 50 electric vehicles, including models from VW, BMW and Renault. This trade fair is also expected to be very busy, which is likely to put a strain on the access routes via the Universitätsring and the Dr.-Karl-Renner-Ring.
Parking and arrival
If you want to travel by car, you should think carefully about where you park. In Vienna there is a short-term parking zone from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with a maximum parking time of two hours. Residential parking spaces around the town hall are also active on weekends and public holidays. For possible parking spaces, we recommend the Märzparkgarage and the Stadthalle garage, which charge a flat rate of € 10 from two hours before the start of the events until 2:00 a.m.
To avoid stress, the ARBÖ advises planning enough time for the journey. A good alternative to traveling by car is public transport: U2 (Town Hall station), U3 (Volkstheater) and trams 1, 2, D and 71 are recommended in order to be able to experience the events as relaxed as possible. For more detailed information on the traffic situation, those interested can also view the forecasts from ÖAMTC.
Let's summarize: It will be loud, it will be colorful and certainly a bit chaotic - get ready for an exciting weekend in Vienna!
