Vienna beams: New festival Wiener Lichtblicke 2025 starts tomorrow!
In the coming weeks, Vienna will be the setting for a fascinating festival that combines light art with democratic issues. The “Wiener Lichtblicke 2025” festival will take place from October 10th to November 18th, 2025. The Breitenfelder Church in the 8th district will host the opening ceremony on October 10th at 8:30 p.m. It's not just art lovers who can rejoice; the event also aims to strengthen public participation in democratic processes.

An important aspect of the bright spots is the accompanying participation research, which takes into account the opinions and suggestions of the participants on democratic topics. As you can see, it's not just about light and shadow, but also about the light of participation that can shine in public spaces. “Democracy requires active participation,” explains a festival spokesperson, pointing to the complex dynamics between artistic autonomy and public participation in art.
According to the organizers of the Vienna Lichtblicke, light art has been successfully linked to various democratic annual themes over the last five years. The innovative concept of light & shadow tours will be implemented for 2025, which will focus on the question of participation in democracy. This connection between art and political participation is reflected in citizen participation and shows how important it is that all voices are heard.
