While the number of clients drops by 200 people with 145,500, expenses increase by a whopping 280 million euros to a total of EUR 2.84 billion. A clear trend that cannot be ignored because it reflects the increasing needs of the Viennese.

A look at the expenditure shows that impressive 93.6 % of the budget go directly into the promotion of services. The main reasons for the increase in expenses are primarily the inflation and inflation -related additional costs. The financial resources for clients rose from EUR 2.4 billion in 2023 to EUR 2.66 billion in 2024.

care services in the upswing

The increase in care services is particularly striking. 58,790 people received support in this area in 2024, which corresponds to an increase of 1.2 % compared to the previous year. This results in a financial requirement of 1.72 billion euros for care, increasing of 1.55 billion euros a year earlier. The FSW has proven a good hand in this area and adjusted the offers accordingly.

The statistics also show that more care places and remobilization offers are available, which underlines the efforts to provide high -quality support. Around 65 % of the FSW budget flowed into care and support, which benefits a total of 58,600 people.

support for specially required groups

The FSW has taken care of various specially required groups. For example, 15,290 people have received support for restrictions and disabilities, whereby this number is slightly declining. In the area of refugee aid, on the other hand, there is a different trend: 48,750 refugees received basic care, which corresponds to a decline of 2.3 %. It is surprising that 84 % of those affected live in private circumstances, which is important information about the social context in the city.

In homeless help, there was an increase to 13,220 people who used the offers. The opening of new facilities, such as the night center, Sautergasse and the Opportunity House Rossauer Lände, are central building blocks of the Housing First approach that aims to help homeless people.

financing and strategic orientation

In addition to the numerous services, the FSW has also taken a look at the future. A new strategy for financing and alternative forms of investment is planned for 2025. Social City Councilor Peter Hacker emphasizes the political responsibility of the FSW and rejects a complete outsourcing of social benefits. In restless times, it is important to adapt the social services to the changed needs, which the FSW has proven in recent years.

In total, 2024 over 330,000 calls and more than 62,700 applications for the FSW customer were handled: Interior service. The high satisfaction of 96 % among customers: on the inside testifies to a successful work, which was supplemented by a tour with 50 stops and around 2,900 advice. The telephone health advice was also very popular with around 300,000 calls that have been received in Vienna.

What does the future look like? It remains exciting. The FSW must continue to make adjustments in order to be able to meet the challenges and to keep the social infrastructures in Vienna at a high level. The social network must be constantly consolidated, because here is the key to a city worth living in for everyone.
