Pentecost 2025: Vienna rocks with events, football and cultural highlights!

The Pentecost weekend is just around the corner and Vienna has a lot to offer for everyone who wants to enjoy the long weekend. From June 7th to 9th, 2024, the federal capital will be the scene of a colorful variety of events that have something for every taste. Whether sport, music, theater or culinary experiences – there is something for everyone here!

An exciting highlight is the football match between Austria and Romania, which will take place on June 7th in the Ernst Happel Stadium. Admission begins at 6:45 p.m. and travel by public transport is recommended. Particularly convenient are subway line 2, which goes to the “Stadion” station, or subway line 3, which goes to Schlachthausgasse. A parking garage with 1,400 paid parking spaces is available for drivers, but tickets for the game are not currently available. Further information is available on oeticket.com, as reported by meinbezirk.at.

Weather and program forecast

The weather forecast for the weekend doesn't look too rosy. Rain showers and thunderstorms are expected, while Friday is expected to be a little friendlier. Despite the dubious weather conditions, the cultural program remains a real highlight.

If you like cabaret, you shouldn't miss the performances at Cabaret Niedermair. Gunkl can be seen here on June 7th from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Peter Panierer will perform on June 8th during the same period, and the Ensemble Bananz with “Philosophen im Saustall” will also perform on June 7th and 8th from 10 p.m. to midnight. Not to forget Michael Bauer, who will take the stage on Whit Monday from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m., as well as comedies like “Venus & Jupiter” and “Toxische Fries”, which will make the audience laugh.

Classical music lovers can look forward to the concerts in St. Peter's Church on June 7th and 8th, which will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. A large organ concert in St. Stephen's Cathedral will also captivate visitors until midnight on June 7th and 8th.

Vienna attractions on the Pentecost weekend

The Whitsun weekend is not only characterized by cuisine and culture, a variety of festivals are also celebrated in the city. On Saturday the fish and seafood festival will take place at Schwarzenbergplatz, which will enchant lovers of grilled delights. Live music creates the right atmosphere and features artists Curtis Wild and Danny Chicago, among others. There will also be “Wine and Dance” in the Volksgarten from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., which will host another festival for foodies and dance lovers.

For all party enthusiasts there is the Sky and Water Festival on the Danube Island from 4 p.m. on Saturday, which will be celebrated in the open air - and without any admission! But there is also space for sustainable events: On Friday and Saturday, the Repair Festival in front of the Museum Quarter will attract visitors, which focuses on repairing and upgrading objects.

A memorial service for Roma and Sinti will be held in Baranka Park on Whit Monday. The “Voice of Diversity” association organizes this important event, during which the victims of National Socialism are remembered with readings and concerts.

For anyone who would like to use the Pentecost weekend to travel further afield, there are many options available: Carinthia, Italy, Prague and Lisbon are very popular with Viennese people who want to treat themselves to a little break. No matter whether it's a city festival or a short trip - the Viennese know how to make the most of the long weekend, even though the weather doesn't cooperate at times, as freizeit.at warns.

The highlights of the Pentecost festival promise to transform Vienna into a vibrant festival city again this year. If you are still unsure, the numerous events will help you decide on one or more of these exciting options. Be inspired by Viennese culture and nature!
