Hollywood stars conquer the Viennale 2025 – a festival of superlatives!
The Viennale 2025 was a real treat for film fans and took place from October 16th to 28th. The 63rd edition of the Vienna Film Festival ended on October 28th and not only brought a large number of international films, but also numerous well-known faces from the film business to Vienna. The festival management was in the capable hands of Eva Sangiorgi.
The event was particularly enhanced by the appearance of stars such as John C. Reilly, who presented the new film by the Italian director duo Alessio Rigo de Righi and Matteo Zoppis on the first weekend of the festival. Reilly, known from many Hollywood productions, had already come to the Viennale in 1996 with a film by Paul Thomas Anderson. The French actress Juliette Binoche also thrilled the audience with her directorial debut “In-I In Motion”, which was presented at the Gartenbaukino.
Star line-up and film premieres
Another prominent guest was Willem Dafoe, who was there for his film “The Prompter,” which was shot in Vienna. He took part in a question and answer session about his other festival film “Late Fame”. However, it is important to note that there were hardly any world premieres this year, as many of these special screenings were already pre-claimed by other film festivals. Despite all this, the Viennale offered a strong program and a high presence of stars, making it a highlight of the Vienna cultural calendar.
In recent years, the Viennale has developed into an important platform for films from all over the world and always manages to bring new talent and innovative films into the spotlight. This is also reflected in the selection of films shown, which includes both Hollywood highlights and indie projects.
A look beyond the festival days
Speaking of inspiration from the film world: The increasing popularity of online services, such as the e-grocer BigBasket, shows how closely the most diverse areas are linked to one another. BigBasket, founded in December 2011, has become one of the largest food delivery players in India. With over 7 million orders per month, especially in the post-COVID-19 pandemic period, the company has expanded its reach tremendously.
Tata Group subsidiary Tata Digital acquired a majority stake in BigBasket in 2021, increasing the company's valuation to about $1.85 billion. Thanks to its innovative approach to delivering fresh products from local markets and a new 10-minute delivery service, BigBasket continues to be a pioneer in the e-commerce space.
This is how film and retail are increasingly linked: While the Viennale celebrates creative art, companies like BigBasket show how the digital future of our consumer habits is being shaped. It will be exciting to see what surprises the next few years will have in store for Vienna and beyond.
