Sankt Raphael nursing home: Innsbruck's pioneer for green energy!

In Innsbruck, the Sankt Raphael nursing home, located in the Saggen district, has taken an important step towards climate neutrality by completely converting to renewable energies. As Regionews reports, the facility is the first old people's and nursing home in the city to completely avoid fossil fuels. After several years of planning and implementation, the project shows how private commitment and municipal climate goals can work together.

Mayor Johannes Anzengruber emphasizes the importance of this step for reducing fossil fuels and improving air quality in Innsbruck. “This initiative is an important signal for climate protection and for the future of our city,” explains Anzengruber. Switching to green energy technologies is not only a win for the environment, but also for residents, who can live in a healthier environment.

Climate protection in care facilities

But Saint Raphael is not the only institution committed to climate protection. According to a new brochure providing support for care facilities, the average carbon footprint of a care facility is 7 tonnes per resident per year. However, the goal should be to reduce this to 1 ton. As der Paritätische shows, numerous measures are necessary to achieve this goal.

The brochure offers practical tips, such as reducing animal products or using photovoltaic systems. The lack of responsibilities, human and time resources as well as the financing of larger investment measures pose particular challenges. However, a lot can be achieved in care facilities with awareness-raising and concrete actions.

Collaboration for a better future

In times of increasing need for care in Innsbruck, the commitment of private care facilities like Sankt Raphael is crucial. The initiative to use renewable energies could not only be a model for other institutions, but also a driver for climate protection throughout the region. If such projects set a precedent, it could also have a positive impact on the quality of life and environmental conditions of the older generation.

Citizens and the city administration are asked to support these efforts and to find solutions together that meet both the climate goals and the needs of the population. This is the only way to move towards a more sustainable future.
