In Vienna you can already feel the anticipation of this contemplative time of the year. On Thursday, November 6th, 2025, the traditional Christmas market took place in Schönbrunn Castle ceremoniously opened. The first visitors flocked to the courtyard in the morning to enjoy a piece of winter magic.
The opening ceremony was a highlight for everyone present. Festive music, inspiring speeches and the spectacular illumination of the Christmas tree created an atmospheric atmosphere. The children's choir “Rising Voices” opened the event with a heartwarming Christmas song, followed by speeches from Katrin Edtmeier from Imperial Markets and Klaus Panholzer from the Schönbrunn Group, who presented the expanded program and new attractions, such as the large straw maze.
A festive experience for the whole family
The associated new program items have given the Christmas market a fresh coat of paint. Kurt Kaiser from Burgenland Tourismus GmbH also presented an impressive model of the largest Christmas nativity scene. In his speech, cathedral priest Toni Faber spoke about central values of the Christmas season, such as compassion and solidarity, while Pius Strobl from ORF mentioned the cooperation with “Licht ins Dunkel”. The proceeds from the sale of “Kinderhäferln” go directly to this campaign.
The Christmas market will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. until January 6, 2026, with reduced opening hours on Christmas Eve and over the holidays. The offering ranges from festive treats to handmade gifts, creating a perfect place for a cozy get-together with family and friends.
