Parking revolution in Hietzing: Residents receive exclusive parking spaces!

Something crucial is happening in Vienna-Hietzing for the residents who are suffering from the pressure to park. A current survey by MA 46 shows that parking space utilization in the 13th district is over 90 percent, which shows a real need for action in this area. The lack of parking spaces is becoming increasingly noticeable, particularly in the popular streets around Schönbrunn and the Tiergarten. From December 2025, residents' parking spaces will be set up for the first time, which many residents will be aware of with a sigh of relief. Loud Cosmo the 90 percent mark is a legal basis for the creation of such parking spaces.

In the particularly affected streets such as Wattmanngasse, Trauttmansdorffgasse, Woltergasse, Tiroler Gasse and part of Gloriettegasse, the parking situation is being alleviated with a creative solution. This initiative was decided upon in cross-party collaboration and has received great support, both from district leader Johanna Zinkl (ÖVP) and from other political decision-makers. But what exactly does this mean for residents?

The new regulations in detail

The aim of the new order is clear: a noticeable improvement in the parking situation for residents with a valid parking sticker in the district. From December, residents will be able to use the new parking spaces for an unlimited period of time if they have a corresponding badge. Vehicles with disabled parking permits will also continue to be allowed to park without time restrictions. This regulation applies throughout the week, but parking fees only apply on working days. Parking remains free on weekends and public holidays, which in the past has often created additional pressure as large numbers of tourists visit the area.

The regulation also applies increasingly to businesses in the district that can use parking spaces with a parking permit on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To make it even easier, the residents' parking spaces have been marked with special no-parking and no-parking signs. The additional boards provide information about the specific parking conditions.

What does this mean for the future?

The introduction of resident parking spaces in Alt-Hietzing represents a significant step towards a better quality of life. Residents with parking permits are allowed to use these special parking areas throughout the district at no additional cost, which brings with them an enormous increase in quality of life. Like the city of Vienna Vienna.gv.at explains, in districts with over 90 percent parking space occupancy, such regulations can be created to improve the situation for citizens.

This measure is seen by many as long overdue. It remains to be hoped that the introduction of resident parking spaces will not only reduce parking pressure, but will also create a more harmonious coexistence between residents and visitors. The anticipation of the new parking options is already noticeable, and the first positive feedback is certainly only a matter of time.
