Willi Bründlmayer: Discover delicious sparkling wine from Langenlois up close!

On December 9th, 2025, it's all about sparkling culinary delights, because winemaker Willi Bründlmayer from Kamptal has been causing excitement in the Austrian wine world for years. His sparkling wines in particular have now earned a first-class reputation. As Gault&Millau reports, Bründlmayer produces outstanding sparkling wines that offer the perfect combination of fruitiness and freshness.

His Bründlmayer Brut Rosé is made from the Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Pinot Noir grape varieties. This sparkling wine is not only an excellent accompaniment to various dishes, but also impresses with its good storage potential. But the Bründlmayer Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut 2019, which consists of 100% Pinot Noir, is also convincing. With a fine, long-lasting mousse and plenty of depth, it is a real treat for sparkling wine lovers. Both sparkling wines are produced using traditional methods, with the highest quality and respect for origin being the priority.

About the Bründlmayer winery

The Bründlmayer winery, which is based in Langenlois and cultivates 90 hectares of vineyards, has also made a name for itself through the diverse terroirs in this region. Peter Moser, editor of the Falstaff Wine Guide, highlights the enormous potential of the wines produced there. The vineyards are terraced, but not as steep as in the Wachau or Kremstal. The locations in the village of Zöbing are particularly well-known, including the Zöbinger Heiligenstein and other top locations such as Käferberg and Steinmassl.

The region is geologically influenced by the Danube and Kamp rivers and the forests of the Waldviertel, which is reflected in the quality and complexity of the wines. The age of the vines is also impressive: a high proportion are over 50 years old. In some of the Heiligenstein vineyards there are even vines from the 1920s.

Organic farming and innovative methods

To maximize quality, Bründlmayer relies on organic farming, which has been certified by LACON since 2019. The use of the Lyre training system allows for better ripening of the grapes while reducing the risk of grape mildew. According to Skurnik, winemakers carry out several selections during the harvest, in which only the best grapes are processed further. Botrytis is strictly excluded during selection.

An interesting aspect is the transfer of flavor through minimal treatment: some grapes are destemmed and macerated for 12 hours to give the wines additional dimensions. Overall, the distribution of grape varieties in the Bründlmayer winery is diverse: 33% Grüner Veltliner, 25% Riesling, 15% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay and 17% other varieties.

Statistical insights into viticulture

Statistics Austria shows, the regular vineyard base surveys provide valuable data on company numbers, size structures and grape varieties in Austrian viticulture. From 2026, this survey will be integrated into the agricultural structure survey in order to provide a more comprehensive picture of wine-growing activities in Austria. This data is an important part of development and quality assurance in domestic viticulture.
