Rape on a construction site: 53-year-old taxi driver temporarily released!

In a shocking incident in Vienna, a 28-year-old woman was the victim of a sexual assault on September 4th. According to reports from Nachrichten.at The woman, heavily intoxicated, had used a taxi driven by a 53-year-old taxi driver. The evening took a dramatic turn when the taxi driver took a detour, supposedly to pick up something at home.

The driver stopped at a gas station where he bought a drink before continuing his journey towards Floridsdorf. When they arrived at a construction site, they both entered a container. The suspect gave the woman cocaine and a drink, after which she subsequently lost her memories. The taxi driver then took her home. It wasn't until the next day that the woman filed a police report. The suspect claimed all actions were consensual.

Investigations are ongoing

The police have now launched an investigation into suspected rape and abuse of a defenseless person. The suspect is currently at large, but residents report observations of the taxi driver being seen near the container with other women. The investigators are now asking for information from witnesses or other possible victims by calling the Vienna State Criminal Police Office telephone number: 01-31310-33800.

This incident once again highlights the problem of drugs and their effects in public spaces. The growing number of drug offenses and the associated offenses have also been reported in the current one Report on the drug situation in Austria thematised. An increase in illegal drugs and the crimes associated with them is documented here.

The annual reports, which are commissioned by the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction and the Ministry of Health, shed light on changes in the drug market, the legal framework and measures to reduce drug demand. The epidemiological situation of 2023 was captured in the report updated in January 2024.

What happens now in this complex situation? The investigators are called upon and public safety must be guaranteed. The Viennese population is called upon to be vigilant and not to be afraid to act immediately if they suspect anything.
