New tram line 27: Now fast and green from Floridsdorf to Donaustadt!
Starting tomorrow, the new tram line 27 will take over the reins of Vienna's transport network. This important connection has already caused excitement and anticipation because it will directly link Strebersdorf, den Spitz and Donaudfeld with the 22nd district. The new 13.5 kilometers of line 27 not only includes already known routes, but also a completely new route of 2.4 kilometers. The DFZ21 reports on the first trips that will start tomorrow.
Tram line 27 will not only relieve the existing connections on line 26, but will also become a real passenger attraction. “We expect around 10,000 passengers in each direction on school days,” explains a spokesman for Wiener Linien. A key element is the ability to transfer at the new terminus at the Aspern Nord junction, where passengers can seamlessly transfer to the U2 and S-Bahn. But not only that, the U1 and U6 tram lines are also directly accessible and should make it easier to get to work or school.
Innovative route
The optimal route starts at Aspern Nord and leads over Kagraner Platz to the Strebersdorf district of Floridsdorf. Six new stops will be set up on the new route, which will provide the necessary connections and at the same time enable environmentally friendly transport. Particularly noteworthy is the climate-friendly construction of the new route, which is planned as a green boulevard without car traffic. The aim here is not only to promote public transport, but also to set an example for the environment, and the CO2 saving potential of up to 1,600 tonnes annually is an impressive contribution to this.
In addition to the tram lines, 300 new trees will be planted along the route and a continuous cycle path will be created up to Seestadt. According to wien.gv.at, the goal is to improve the connection to the Berresgasse and Heidjöchl urban development areas and thus create sustainable urban development.
Changes in bus and tram transport
The timetable of tram line 26 will be changed until further notice. From 8 p.m. the 26 will no longer run from Floridsdorf station to Strebersdorf, reinforcing the need to consider the new line 27. The 26er's operating hours are Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. These changes show the focus on an efficient design of Vienna's transport network.
If you want to keep an eye on the details of the lines and timetables, you can find all the information on the [Wiener Linien] website (https://www.wienerlinien.at/fahrplaene). The new tram line 27 is not only a significant advance for local public transport in Vienna, but also a step towards more environmental friendliness and quality of life in the city. It will be exciting to see how the use of this new connection will develop when the first passengers board tomorrow.
