Mitja Mörec: Successful trainer switches from Fac to Blau-Weiß Linz!

The Floridsdorfer Athletics Sports Club (FAC) and its long-time head coach Mitja Mörec are now going separate paths. After over four successful years with the Floridsdorfer, the 42-year-old decided to take on a new challenge and will hold the reins at the Bundesliga club FC Blau-Weiß Linz in the future. The change was necessary because his predecessor, Gerald Scheiblehner, has switched to the Grasshoppers Zurich, which puts the new coaching candidate in the position of continuing the good record of Scheiblehner.

MÖREC, who was in office 1,541 days and looked after 137 competitive games, showed impressive performances at the FAC. Under his lead, the team reached the runner -up in the 2nd division and was able to place itself in the upper third of the table with a point cut of 1.67. Last season, the FAC landed sixth place and thus confirmed the positive development of the association since the return. "For us, this has been the most successful coach since then," emphasizes Lukas Fischer, Managing Director Sport of Fac, and is grateful for the work of Mörec. This is also reflected in the perspective of Stefan Krainz, Managing Director of Economy, who praises MÖREC as a "excellent trainer and humans".

New chapter in Linz

Mörec is now expecting an exciting task in Linz. With a contract by 2027, he wants to continue the positive development at Blau-Weiß Linz. The club was able to achieve the best end result in its history with sixth place last season and would like to continue this trend. Sports director Christoph Schösswender emphasizes Mörec's combination of human and sporting qualities, which he considers indispensable for the upcoming challenges.

The change of MÖREC comes at a time when coaching changes in the Bundesliga are not uncommon. According to current data, numerous coaching changes have been registered since the 1963/1964 season, which shows how dynamically the coaching carousel is in the league. MÖREC is therefore not the first to leave its traces in Austrian football, but his curriculum vitae at the FAC is seen as a shining example of successful coaching work in the 2nd league.

Until the successor to Mörec on the FAC is regulated, assistant coach Mario Sonnleitner will interfere with the training management. This will be crucial to ensure a flowing transition, especially in view of the upcoming league start, which is scheduled for August 3, 2025.
