While one elevator has been breaking down on and off for almost a year, the other has been out of service for almost a decade. The call for change
District Councilor Heinz-Christian Strache has now pulled the emergency brake and is calling for immediate measures to examine and remedy the grievances in the Karl Seitz Garage. His application was approved by the district council, but the Greens voted against it. Even though the operator of the garage, the BOE, emphasizes that there was a technical problem with the emergency call that has since been resolved, it remains uncertain when the second elevator will be operational again.
As the Krone reports, the tenants are upset about the operator's poor communication. BOE is only offering 20 euros as compensation, while at the same time the monthly fees are to be increased to over 115 euros. Tenants have also learned that the elevator, which has been broken since 2014, cannot be used because of “water in the shaft.”
