Big autumn festival: Celebrate 40 years of Forest of Young Viennese”!
Vienna is celebrating a reason to be happy: the reforestation campaign “Forest of Young Viennese” is 40 years old! This initiative, which has existed since 1985, has established itself as a mainstay of green space design in the city over the last four decades. Between 50,000 and 100,000 square meters of new trees are planted every year - a green success that not only improves the quality of life of Viennese, but is also important for the city's climate. Next Saturday, November 8th, the big anniversary celebration will take place in Floridsdorf, where, among other things, the 500,000th tree will be symbolically planted. My district reports that ...
The festival starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. at Josef-Flandorfer-Straße 90-96. Admission is free, but visitors should bring sturdy shoes and weatherproof clothing to enjoy the program. For younger guests there is a varied children's program with hands-on stations, farmer's golf, a puppet stage and face painting. Two food trucks and a WienXtra stand with fried potatoes ensure physical enjoyment.
Give back a piece of nature
The city of Vienna always keeps an eye on the forest and the green belt and strives to close and enlarge them. Around 10,000 new native trees and shrubs, such as oaks, linden trees and maples, are planted every year, particularly in areas with little forest in the northeast and south of the city. The city's foresters are available to answer questions and bring the participants closer to the forest habitat. These reforestation campaigns make a significant contribution to promoting the urban climate and creating habitats for numerous animals - from deer and rabbits to amphibians and insects. Wien.gv.at highlights that...
The origin of this initiative lies in the “Vienna Young Citizens Forest”, which was launched in 1985. The first planting took place in the 21st district and many suitable areas in the city have now been developed. WienXtra has also created a map that shows all planting locations and shows how much green there is in urban areas.
