District derby at the start of the season: Donaufeld meets FAC!
An intense football weekend is coming! On Friday, July 25, 2025, the SR Donaufeld and FAC teams will open the 2025/26 competitive season in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. What’s special about this derby? It is the first meeting between the two teams in 18 years, when they last met in the 2006/07 city league season. At that time there was a thrilling 1-1 draw. This time, however, the match will be played at the Donaufeld Stadium and starts at 5:30 p.m.
The omens are exciting, because the FAC, which has been active in professional football for 12 years, is the favorite in this encounter as a second division team. While the FAC has experienced a change under interim coach Mario Sonnleitner, SR Donaufeld, as champions of the Regionalliga East, has shown no ambitions for promotion to the 2nd league. Nevertheless, the Donaufelder are coming off a strong second half of the season, in which they only lost five games and won eleven of a total of fifteen home games.
Tickets for the derby
For all fans who want to be there live: Advance ticket sales have already begun. The entrance fee is 20 euros and children up to 10 years old have free entry. Tickets are available at the FAC office at Hopfengasse 8, 1210 Vienna, as well as in the canteen of SR Donaufeld. Ticket sales take place Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and it is important to note that payment is only possible in cash.
The atmosphere at the upcoming derby promises to be a fighting spectacle. Mario Sonnleitner, the FAC's interim coach, is optimistic and emphasizes that the team has developed very well in preparation. A single defeat in six test matches speaks for the positive trend in the team. We will do everything we can to carry the winning mentality from last season into the new year.
An intense game is expected in the football scene and spectators can look forward to a real district derby. It remains to be seen whether the FAC can make the favorite role worth it in the stadium. SR Donaufeld has nothing to lose and will invest everything to exploit their home advantage.
