Attacked with a knife: man in Vienna fends off bravely!
In the late evening hours of June 9, 2025, a suspected robbery occurred in Klausenberger Straße in the 10th Vienna district, near the U1 station Troststraße. Two unknown perpetrators attacked a man and called for his cell phone and wallet to threaten violence. The victim, a brave contemporary, resisted the attackers and suffered minor injuries, as today reported.
Surprisingly, the incident was reported to the emergency services more than an hour late, which raises questions about the quick reaction of the bystanders. It remains unclear whether passers -by did not respond to the situation or why the police were only informed of the occurrence after this time frame. The State Criminal Police Office in Vienna, South branch, has now initiated investigations against the unknown perpetrators. Fortunately, they managed to escape without prey.
increasing number of knife attacks
In recent years, the increase in knife attacks in Austria makes headlines. According to [vienna.at] (https://www.vienna.at/zumen-der-messenattacken-tack-in-paste- zu/8633932) the number of reported violent offenses with stab weapons from 1,524 in 2013 in 2022. The highest level was reached in 2016 with 2,530 attacks. The statistics show that between 2016 and 2022 the annual ads constantly fluctuate between 2,100 and 2,500. In contrast, the number of acts of violence with firearms has dropped significantly, which raises questions about security in public space.
In response to these questionable developments, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) plans a general ban on weapons in public space. Experts are currently working on a law that could possibly prohibit taking certain knives in the future. There are already weapon ban zones in heavily frequented places, such as the Vienna Praterstern or in Innsbruck, which are intended to reduce the risk of acts of violence.
public security in criticism
The repeated reports about knife attacks always bring the topic of public security to the agenda. Not only the affected people, but also society as a whole, are increasingly focusing on preventive measures in order to counteract increasing violence. The citizens want solutions that enable safe coexistence.
In view of the incidents and the alarming statistics, it is essential that the authorities continue to work intensively on the clarification of such acts and at the same time have preventive measures. This is the only way to ensure that the streets of Vienna remain safe.Details | |
