Knife attack on Reumannplatz: Three injured in robbery!
A quiet evening at Reumannplatz in Favoriten was suddenly overshadowed by a terrible incident on Monday. At around 7 p.m., police alerted about a suspected knife attack in the busy area. This was preceded by a robbery in which two suspects stole a man's wallet and injured him with a knife. The situation quickly escalated when two passers-by intervened and also found themselves in the line of fire, which meant that they too were attacked with a knife by the perpetrators. A total of three people were injured in this physical incident, but fortunately none of them are in mortal danger, as Kurier reports.
The injured were quickly treated by the Vienna professional rescue service and taken to surrounding clinics. The injuries mainly affected the victims' thigh and chest areas. While those affected have not yet been able to be interviewed, investigators already have information about the suspects. They are said to be in the area frequently, which could make the investigations by the Vienna State Criminal Police Office easier. Due to suspicions of aggravated robbery and multiple intentional grievous bodily harm, the authorities have already launched extensive investigations.
Insights into crime statistics
Such incidents shed light on the general security situation in Vienna and developments in crime. The police crime statistics (PKS) have been recording all reported crimes since 2001 and provide important data for strategic planning to combat crime. According to information from the Federal Criminal Police Office, these statistics include the penalties of the Austrian Criminal Code and other criminal law provisions. The PKS is updated annually and provides detailed insights into the security situation that are important to the population.
Although serious incidents continue to occur, the authorities have initiated measures to combat crime and are keeping a close eye on developments in recent years. Preventive and repressive strategies should be developed to continuously improve security in the districts.
