The Margareten district administration has taken a significant step towards fair use of parking spaces. District leader Michael Luxenberger (Greens) noted that Margareten is the only inner-city district in Vienna that does not yet have reserved parking spaces for residents. The utilization analysis is crucial. It will be carried out in a clearly defined area that extends between Pilgramgasse,rechte Wienzeile, Hamburgerstrasse, Kettenbrückengasse and Margaretenstrasse. The results are expected to be incorporated into the budget planning for possible residential parking zones in 2026. “It is important that we both recognize the needs of drivers and promote alternative means of transport,” says Luxenberger. Compared to other parts of the city, Margareten has the lowest car density in Vienna with 260 cars per 1,000 inhabitants.

An important component is also market analysis, whereby demand and comparative prices for regional parking spaces should be monitored. Providing basic amenities such as power connections, fresh water and safe disposal is also essential.
