Artistic cats decorate the CortiHaus: A look at the new wall painting

The facade of the CortiHaus in Meidling recently shined in new splendor. The artist Ms. Isa created an impressive mural with two artistic cats in the inner courtyard of the homeless shelter. This colorful mural looks out onto Wilhelmstrasse and brings a bit of joie de vivre into the everyday lives of the residents of the VinziRast-CortiHaus. MeinBezirk reports about the special opening, which was celebrated with the residents, volunteers and employees of the supporting company Canva.

The mural shows cats, plants and flowers in earthy tones that flow harmoniously into one another. The two cats, Leopold and Peter, are not only part of the painting, but also real residents of the CortiHaus, which offers a permanent home to people in difficult life situations. The “Vinzenzgemeinschaft St. Stephan” association is proud that the CortiHaus not only offers accommodation, but also support for returning to living conditions.

Supported by Canva

What is particularly noteworthy is that the project was financially supported by the Australian software company Canva. In addition to the wall painting, the company also supported the renovation of the wet rooms, which was urgently needed after 20 years, and donated old office furniture. This initiative shows how important it is to promote social projects to strengthen communities and help local people.

The CortiHaus is one of several facilities operated by VinziRast and has been offering an emergency sleeping center for many years, which is also open 365 days a year. The emergency shelter is particularly full in the summer months, which is why we are always looking for volunteers who would like to get involved.

Art in public spaces

Art also plays a big role in Vienna. The “Art in Public Spaces” initiative is currently presenting various temporary art projects that were selected by the KÖR jury. These projects address the effects of climate change on our society and are intended to raise awareness of ecological challenges. KÖR informs about the current and permanent art projects in the city.

As part of this initiative, nine new art installations were opened in Floridsdorf that raise questions about the future of our planet and invite collective action. Projects like “How do we want to live?” bring together visual art and social issues and invite everyone to actively participate in the discussion. In addition, there are numerous competitions that stimulate creative design in various areas and thus enrich public life in Vienna.

The combination of social responsibility and artistic expression makes it clear how closely the topics of art and community are interwoven. The residents of the CortiHaus not only implement the mural's invitation into their daily lives, but also actively contribute to the cultural and art scene in Vienna. Art and humanity – a successful combination!
