Art and literature develop soul power in Brigittenau!
From November 20th, Brigittenau will become a venue for artistic diversity when the painter Sonja Arte presents her works with the theme of “nature”. Her art not only shows fantastic landscapes and surrealistic tree compositions, but is also characterized by a positive perspective, which is reflected in expressive colors and various techniques. In recent years, Arte has expanded its skills and now uses a wide range of materials, whether acrylic, mixed media or watercolors - including photography and AI experiments. How meinkreis.at reports, she describes her works of art as “food for the soul” and shows exhibits from many of her creative periods.
At the same time, the writer Franziska Bauer is enriching the cultural events in the city with her new book. In it she translates fables, fairy tales and legends into poetic verses, combining old stories with fresh perspectives. Providers of high-quality books can rejoice - the work is illustrated in full color and invites readers to immerse themselves in new contexts of traditional stories. Some of Sonja Arte's paintings are complemented by Bauer's texts, which strengthens the connection between image and word and deepens the magic of the art form.
The artists in detail
Sonja Arte, born Sonja Polzhofer in Vienna, has over 40 years of experience in the art scene and has been focusing particularly on her studies at the University of Applied Arts since 2017. Her CV is impressive: she has already taken part in numerous exhibitions in Austria and Italy, including the Venice Biennale. In 2025, three of her works will be staged for the “The Art of (m) Food” campaign, further enhancing her portfolio. She has also been a member of IG Bildende Kunst in Vienna since 2024 and has established herself as an active artist in Atelier Sonne, where she realizes her ideas.
Franziska Bauer, on the other hand, as a retired high school teacher and author, brings her wealth of experience to literature. By studying Russian and English at the University of Vienna, she has made a name for herself in the literary scene and has already won several prizes in literary competitions. Her book is based on in-depth research and creative curiosity, and her writing immerses the reader in a world that is both familiar and new.
Art as a mirror of time
The art and literary world in the early 19th century was characterized by profound changes brought about by industrialization and social upheavals. These transformation processes are reflected in the works of the time, which took up both political and social discourse. The combination of image and text was a common motif that impressively documents the change in the perception of time and space. Art and literature experienced a dynamic structural change that posed challenges to traditional aesthetic norms. These developments are not only important in the historical context, but also resonate in today's cultural landscape, where artists like Sonja Arte and Franziska Bauer realize their visions and use interdisciplinary approaches to share stories and experiences. As the bpb.de describes, we cannot forget that art and literature are always instruments of change.
At a time when social and cultural trends are competing with one another, events like those organized by Arte and Bauer are particularly valuable. They not only offer space for art, but also for exchange and inspiration. In the coming months we can look forward to seeing what these two talented artists will create and how their stories and images will be woven into the cultural fabric of Vienna. This is the kind of art that not only nourishes us, but also creates the space for reflection and growth.
