Exclusive construction site tour on the A23: Secure your seats now!

Something is happening in Vienna - especially on the A23, the busiest motorway in Austria. Asfinag has announced an exciting event that will delight many in the city. On August 5, 2025, those interested will have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the major construction site of the southeast bypass. With around 230,000 vehicles every day, especially in the Prater Hochstrasse area, this is a unique experience for anyone who is curious about construction sites or just wants to take a good photo. There are 20 places up for grabs on the tour, which offers an exclusive opportunity to look behind the scenes at one of Vienna's most important transport hubs. According to meinkreis.at, the conditions for participation are simple: Anyone who wants to take part must fill out a participation form on the website and state their reasons.

To keep the excitement going, the draw for places will take place on July 29, 2025. The tour itself lasts from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the exact meeting point will be announced to the lucky winners. This tour of the A23 is an absolute must, especially for photography enthusiasts and those interested in construction sites. However, anyone who is not included in the raffle may have to deal with the current construction sites and the associated disruptions.

Renovation work on the A23

The renovation work on the A23 has already begun and is causing some difficult traffic situations. There are traffic jams and delays every day, which can last up to an hour during rush hours and especially on weekends. The section between the Prater junction and the Handelskai junction is being renovated in both directions, as oeamtc.at reports. In order to equalize the passage a little, the hard shoulder is used as an additional lane, but this means that traffic flows in the opposite direction for oncoming traffic through the so-called trough lane.

Due to the construction work, the bypass ramp in the direction of Handelskai at the Prater junction is closed, but the exit to the city center remains open. For better orientation, a color guidance system will be installed to help drivers find their way around the construction site. These measures could pose a real challenge for some drivers, as avoiding the stadium avenue is also not advisable due to other construction sites.

Outlook for the coming months

The renovation work is expected to last until the end of August 2026. After a winter break from October 2025 to March 2026, the Prater and Handelskai junctions will be examined again. The goal is clear: safe and sustainable traffic management for everyone who travels on this busy route every day.
