Ulm celebrates variety: The rainbow street railway is now there!

As part of the Pride Month in June, the Donau-Schiller-Nahverkehrsverbund-GmbH (thing), together with SWU Verkehr GmbH, set an impressive sign of openness and diversity. On June 2, 2025, the new Ding Regenbowstrasse was solemnly put into operation. This 31.5 meter long tram, which offers space for 185 passengers, not only impresses with its design in the six rainbow colors, but also with the motto: "Cohesion has right of way".

The tram will be used on both lines in Ulm by at least at least at the end of 2026. Ding Managing Director Bastian Goßner underlined the enormous importance of acceptance and inclusion in public transport at the opening ceremony, which applies to all people, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, impairment, origin or social background. The managing director of SWU, Ralf Gummersbach, also emphasized the diversity of the local transport employees who come from different countries and actively participate in the design of the customer service.

Pride Ulm/Neu-Ulm in the limelight

Another highlight of the partnership is the support of the thing as a sponsor of Christopher Street Day 2025. The Association Pride Ulm/Neu-Ulm, which is committed to visibility, education and equality in the region, benefits from this cooperation. If you want to learn more about the activities of the association, you can do this on the website of the Pride Ulm.

The Pride Month itself is all about diversity, tolerance and inclusion. The transport companies are committed to the fact that millions of passengers experience a pleasant journey with different cultural backgrounds. The Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) occupies a clear position against racism and discrimination and considers diversity as an enrichment for the industry and society.

commitment to a colorful future

In June, the rainbow flag is raised as a symbol of sexual diversity. The overarching goal is to promote respect and tolerance and recognize individual identities. In addition, the association #Publisbunt, which was founded in January 2025, is another important player. It is committed to visibility and appreciation of the LGBTIQA community in public transport. The VDV is not only ideal, but also a financial supporter of this association.

The action of the Ding rainbowstrasse is therefore part of a larger commitment of the transport companies to ensure that every passenger and every employee feel welcome in this colorful society. The numerous member companies that signed the "Charter of Diversity" stand for a clear sign against discrimination.
