Frantic escape through Vienna: Police catch driver after chase!
On Wednesday night, around 1:15 a.m., a dangerous incident occurred in Vienna's Leopoldstadt that kept the authorities on tenterhooks. A driver who ignored a driving ban came to the attention of the police and caused significant traffic delays. The situation became particularly difficult when the driver hindered an emergency vehicle on its way. What followed was a chase that led through Leopoldstadt to the Danube city.
The man was not only reckless, but also fast. He significantly exceeded the maximum permitted speed: over 110 km/h in the local area, over 170 km/h on the motorway and even over 80 km/h in a 30 zone. While fleeing, he ran several red lights and forced other drivers to brake abruptly. A particularly dangerous moment occurred at Handelskai when he drove rapidly towards a police car, which only managed to avoid something worse by taking evasive action.
Drug arrest
During the subsequent check, a medical officer found impairment due to drug use and a blood alcohol level of 0.6. The 28-year-old Russian, who did not have a valid driving license and also had outstanding fines in the four-digit euro range, was reported for several offenses. The list ranges from attempted resistance against state power to attempted serious bodily harm to numerous traffic offenses and violations of the Narcotic Substances Act.
Legal background
The man is currently in police custody and investigations continue. The Vienna police warn urgently about the consequences of such reckless behavior in traffic.
