Pier 22 Now opened: sport, enjoyment and fun on the Danube!

Donaustadt, Österreich - On Monday, June 16, 2025, the second part of the Pier 22 on the Vienna Donauinsel. This opening marks a further step in the comprehensive redesign of the former Sunken City, which started in 2023. City councilor Ulli Sima (SPÖ) emphasized the high use of the first construction phase, which was successful for over a year.

The new pier extends over 13,000 square meters and offers a diverse, consumption -free leisure landscape. Here you will find numerous water additives and sporty offers with adjustable outdoor fitness equipment. For the safety of the athletes: there are lockers inside to keep valuables during training. Other highlights include a fitness center and two cafés, the Pier 22-café as well as an outdoor café with a spacious terrace.

The newly designed area offers a covered multifunctional sports area. While the soil and the photovoltaic systems can still be installed in the third construction phase, temporary food trucks are also used, which offer a colorful selection of culinary delights from Austria and beyond. Greek specialties, vegan options and Wienerschnitzel are just a few of the delicacies that guests can expect.

The first part of the Pier 22 includes leisure areas such as lying areas, a bridge, a co-working area and a kiosk that were already well frequented in the previous year. The redesign of the area shows that the city of Vienna places great emphasis on a modern leisure landscape that meets the needs of the Viennese: inside. In this context, the city administration emphasizes that the redesign focus on sustainability and the integration of water and green designs, which upgrades the entire district, as well as the Environmental Federal Agency

versatile use as a goal

The renovation is to create high -quality leisure activities that not only serve the citizens: inside, but also attract tourists. The upper level of the second section is designed in such a way that it blends harmoniously into the open parking landscape, while the lower level offers a wide waterfront with numerous seating. Furthermore, a barrier -free access must be planned to make the entire system accessible to everyone.

For the future, further steps are already planned. The last construction phase, which contains the multifunctional sports field with a rainproof roof, is to be completed by autumn 2025. The city has paid special attention to a continuous design that takes into account the flood protection and the ecological upgrading of the area.

The enthusiasm for the new offers on Pier 22 is already noticeable and the residents: Inside, an exciting summer season can look forward to luring with many events and activities until the area is fully completed in the summer of 2026.
