Rooftop of the DC2 in Vienna: A milestone for modern urban development!
An impressive construction project is currently making great progress in the Danube city: the mixed-use tower DC2 has reached the roof level. S+B Gruppe AG celebrated this milestone last week together with the construction company Porr, the investor Commerz Real and numerous representatives of the district. Overall, the tower rises 180 meters above Vienna's 22nd district and will become the city's new landmark, cleverly combining work and living, as S+B Group AG describes in its report.
At the celebratory event, district head Ernst Nevrivy and other invited guests also acknowledged the construction progress and the importance of the project for local development. The district leader noted the positive effect on the region and emphasized that the DC2 is not just a modern building, but a visible symbol of progressive urban development in Vienna.
Modern architecture and innovative technology
The DC2 tower will be equipped with an advanced photovoltaic facade on an area of around 10,550 square meters, consisting of 3,300 PV elements. This innovative facade is not only intended to set architectural accents, but also to cover the energy needs of around 200 single-family homes. By the time they are completed at the end of 2026, the environmentally friendly systems will contribute to Vienna's sustainable energy future. However, the planning of these technologies requires careful consideration, as a recent specialist conference on facade photovoltaics made clear. The city of Vienna shows that vertical PV systems – space-saving and efficient – offer great potential.
The lower floors of DC2 will provide dining and modern co-working space, while 30 floors above will offer flexible office space. From a height of 100 meters, a special residential offering is created with a total of 314 rental apartments, which are equipped with spacious loggias. The rental is carried out by the S+B Group with technical support from CBRE and EHL.
A research project for the future
Another exciting aspect of the project is the research work that runs parallel to construction. The construction company Porr is using the opportunity to generate new data on the vibration behavior of buildings. As Henning Koch from Commerz Real emphasized, the DC2 is considered a showcase project that combines the latest developments in building architecture and sustainable energy use.
Overall, the DC2 tower brings a breath of fresh air to the Danube city and shows that Vienna is well on the way to modern and sustainable urban development. Such visionary projects not only use building land efficiently, but also contribute to a more environmentally friendly future.
