Vikings in the semi-finals: Can they beat Nordic Storm?

On Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., the Generali Arena in Vienna-Döbling will be the venue for an exciting semi-final game of the European League of Football (ELF) between the Vienna Vikings and Nordic Storm. The Vikings go into this duel with a clear goal: to reach the final on September 7th in Stuttgart against the Munich Ravens or Stuttgart Surge. “We have a good knack for games like this and are ready to show what we’re made of again,” head coach Chris Calaycay confidently announces. The mood among the fans is already at its peak and the Vikings are happy about a sold-out stadium attendance of 5,000 spectators, which is a new record for the home stadium. An additional 550 places have been created for the exciting event in order to meet the high demand.

In their fourth participation in the ELF, the Vikings are fighting for a place in the final after alternating between triumph and defeat in the last two seasons. They won the title in 2022, while losing to the Surge in the semifinals in 2023 and Rhein Fire in the final in 2024. The coach highlights the great support of the home fans and emphasizes the home advantage of the Hohe Warte: “We feel comfortable here and have the atmosphere of our side.”

Nordic Storm on the rise

In contrast to the Vikings, Nordic Storm is a new team in the ELF and won the North Division in its debut season. With a quarterback like Jadrian Clark, a two-time ELF champion, they challenged old hands and were able to defeat Rhein Fire in the first play-off round. The Vikings are aware of the strength of their opponent and know that a dose of respect is necessary in the decisive phase of the tournament.

Calaycay added: “Nordic Storm presented itself strongly – we have to play our best game to advance.” The Vikings are in a very good position with 11 wins and 4 defeats in the ELF standings and can look back on an impressive point ratio of 463:232. Nordic Storm, on the other hand, has won 10 times and lost 2 times to date, with a point ratio of 432:201. An exciting encounter seems guaranteed.
