Wild chase in Brigittenau: 150 km/h and ignoring red lights!

On the night of Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025, a spectacular incident through the streets of Vienna-Brigittenau attracted attention. Police officers from the Vorgartenstrasse police station wanted to stop a suspect on Dresdner Strasse. But the driver's reaction was anything but sensible and he pushed the accelerator pedal all the way down.

The chase gave the impression of an action-packed film: the car accelerated to a dizzying 150 km/h and ignored numerous red lights. The escape led through several streets in the north of Vienna and caused excitement among the residents who had actually been preparing for contemplative hours that evening. When the car finally came to a stop in Siegfriedgasse, a passenger jumped out of the vehicle and ran away. However, the emergency services from the Donaufelder Straße police station didn't take long to ask and quickly caught up with him. A small amount of cannabis was also seized during his arrest.

A dangerous escape attempt

But that wasn't the end of the escape: the driver continued his escape on foot, but was also caught a short time later. According to information from oe24 The 23-year-old Dutch citizen is a wanted criminal. He was sentenced to twelve years in prison in the Netherlands for crimes such as kidnapping, hostage-taking and aggravated robbery.

The situation escalated further when the passenger took over the wheel while the driver tried to escape and drove a few meters until she too was stopped by the police. Apparently neither the driver nor the passenger had a valid driving license and both were under the influence of addictive substances.

Crime in the city

Such incidents show once again how important the police's preventive measures are to ensure security in Vienna. The police crime statistics (PKS), which are available on the website of the Federal Criminal Police Office can be viewed, illustrates how important it is to recognize and combat criminal behavior at an early stage. It is updated regularly and takes into account both arrests and the various forms of crime in Austria.

The two suspects were ultimately taken to a correctional facility, while the passenger was reported. Further proof that the security forces in Vienna are doing everything they can on the night before Christmas to keep events under control and protect the population.
